44th meeting of the EUTELSAT Assembly of Parties

The 44th Assembly of Parties of EUTELSAT took place 4 and 5 March 2025 in Paris, under the Chairmanship of Ms Viviane Arni (Switzerland) as Chair and Mr Andrea De Simone (Italy) as Vice-Chair.

 

 

 

Opening Ceremony

 

Several prominent guests addressed the Assembly during an Opening Ceremony – Mr Laurent Parenté, Director General of the International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO), Mr Laurent Jaffart, Director of Connectivity and Secured Communications at the European Space Agency (ESA) and Mr Alexandre Vallet, Chief of Space Services Department of the Radiocommunication Bureau of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

 

Their interventions highlighted the unprecedented transformation of the satcom sector, driven by rising global connectivity demand and technological advancements enabling the convergence of telecommunication and satellite communications.  The speakers all agreed that it is fundamental for intergovernmental organisations to continue to cooperate closely to safeguard the public interest.

 

 

 

Mr Piotr Dmochowski-Lipski re-elected as Executive Secretary 

 

The Assembly re-elected Mr Piotr Dmochowski-Lipski of Poland by acclamation to the post of Executive Secretary for a third four-year term to commence on 2 July 2025. The Assembly also appointed a new Advisory Committee composed for the next two years of the Parties of Bulgaria, France, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Switzerland.

 

 

 

Observance of the Basic Principles by Eutelsat S.A.

 

The Assembly reviewed information from the Executive Secretary and from Eutelsat S.A. regarding the respect of the commitments the Company made to the EUTELSAT Member States when the assets and operations of the intergovernmental organisation were transferred to it in 2001.

 

A presentation on this matter was made by the Chief Executive Officer of Eutelsat Communications S.A., Ms Eva Berneke, who outlined the strategy of Eutelsat Group since the Company became the first global player to operate satellites in both low-earth and geostationary orbits. Her remarks were received with keen interest and recognition from the EUTELSAT IGO Member States.

 

 

 

Future activities of EUTELSAT IGO

 

The Assembly noted that EUTELSAT IGO will continue to monitor closely the preparatory process for the next meeting of the World Radiocommunication Conference (WCR 27) and to participate in key meetings concerning the future and sustainability of satellite telecommunications services.
